So, while Mavis and Johnny are away, Drac enlists his friends to help him put the boy through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But things really get batty when Drac’s cantankerous, old-school dad (Mel Brooks) pays an unexpected visit.”
My Review:
Hotel Transylvania 2 takes us on a whole different ride than the first movie. This time, Mavis and Johnny are married and have a baby named Dennis, which means that Drac is a Grandfather. When they decide to go on vacation, Drac watches over baby Dennis while they’re away. Although Drac loves taking care of his grandson, it seems he has a hidden agenda. Even though Dennis is still young, time is going by and he still hasn’t shown any signs of becoming a Vampire. Since he is half human, it’s unsure if he will ever do so. Drac calls upon his friends to help him get to the bottom of this, and to try to bring out Dennis’ monster side…and that’s where all of the fun ensues. Without giving any more away, I will say that this was a good sequel to the first movie. Once again, Adam Sandler and the gang come together to bring us another fun movie that the whole family can enjoy. Usually while watching an animated movie, it can be hard to tell who’s playing the voices of the characters. Fortunately for us, wherever Adam Sandler goes…his crew goes. It’s a lot of fun seeing what each actor brings to their characters table. Also returning to the story we have Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez, as well as a new character played by Mel Brooks. There are so many names in this movie that you wouldn’t even realize it unless you looked it up. Aside from the talent, this movie is visually gorgeous. As expected, the special effects used on the characters and their environments are incredible. Now, a lot of people might say that all animated movies are beautiful…but they’d be wrong. I’ve seen some good ones, some bad ones, some great ones, and some terrible ones. Luckily, Hotel Transylvania 2 was done with a lot of hard work and detail. Some of the colors that are used throughout the film are so vibrant that they feel like they’re popping out at you. Owning this movie on Bluray makes the experience even better. The Picture Quality is fantastic, giving you the same crisp experience that you’d have in the theater. The Audio Quality is just as good, showing off the sound effects and the fun music that was used throughout the movie. The Bluray also gives you a nice amount of Special Features including Character Sketch Galleries, Deleted Scenes, Commentaries from the Cast & Crew, and more. Overall, I had a good time with this movie even though it wasn’t perfect. It has a fun cast, fun characters, a few laughs, and some beautiful visuals to go along with it. If you have seen and enjoyed the first one, I recommend checking this one out. It’s good for the whole family.
