“In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.”

My Review:

Sicario revolves around Emily Blunt’s character, Kate, as she rises through the ranks of the FBI. Kate is approached and recruited for a top assignment dealing with the war on drugs between Mexico and the US. She joins a task force led by a government official named Matt (played by Josh Brolin), who is very unclear about the details of the mission, and Alejandro (played by Benicio Del Toro), who is a very mysterious character. They travel back and forth between Mexico and the US, using one cartel boss to bait a bigger one. Kate begins to question the methods being used by her task force, as they aren’t going by the book. Emily Blunt played her character very well, as you see can her confusion, concern, and uncertainty about what she’s getting into. Josh Brolin was also good as the sarcastic “I don’t have to tell you anything” wiseguy. With that being said, the one who stole the show for me had to be Benicio Del Toro. He plays an intense stoned face character, in which you can never tell what his next move is going to be. The movie was filmed incredibly beautiful, with some of the scenes being absolutely breathtaking. One that stood out most to me, was a silhouette of the characters in front of a gorgeous sunset, as they prepared for battle. The score was also done really well, as it accompanied the beautiful cinematography. There really weren’t any dull moments throughout the movie, in my opinion. Once you start to understand what’s really going on, and why it’s happening, the story pulls you in even more making you eager to find out what’s going to happen next. Seeing this movie on Bluray enhances the whole experience. The Picture and Audio Quality is so crisp and clear, making it feel like you’re right there with the characters. Overall, I had a really good time with this one. The cast was fantastic, and their acting was top notch. The visuals and the score went really well with everything, adding to the overall intensity of the movie. This was one of my most anticipated movies for 2015, and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend checking this one out.
