“A 16-year-old boy (Smit-McPhee) heads west on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves. He encounters a mysterious traveler names Silas (Fassbender) who protects him from the savage elements and outlaws in a lawless land, but is Silas really watching out for him…or tied to the band of thieves tracking their every step?”
I have always loved Westerns, so when I saw that one of my favorite actors of modern times (Michael Fassbender) was going to be in one…I was excited. The story is about a guy who is traveling West (hence the name), looking for the woman that he loves. On his trip, he comes across a guy named Silas (Played by Fassbender). Silas offers to look after, and protect him while on his journey. However, little did he know, Silas was also looking for the same woman. That’s really all I can say without giving everything away. I had a fairly decent time with this movie but unfortunately by the end, I felt like something was missing. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great scenes that are full of action, and some fun comedy mixed in but there are also some slow parts, which made it seem a bit uneventful until the end of the movie. Aside from that, the acting was fantastic. Once you have Michael Fassbender in the movie, you can expect nothing less. The acting of the cast who played the villains was also pretty good but I wish that they would’ve given them a bit more back story. Regardless, it was still an enjoyable watch. The Picture Quality was really nice showing off some of the beautiful scenery, and the Audio Quality really shined during the gun battles. This set comes with a really cool Short Film called “Pitch Black Heist”, which is a really nice addition. Overall, it’s a decent movie with some decent scenes. The story is interesting, and the actors did a great job with their characters. I just wish that there was a little but more to it. If you’re a fan of Michael Fassbender, or if you’re a fan of Westerns, I recommend checking it out sometime.
